Survey finds younger families looking to buy

Younger families may be the most willing to buy a home.A recent survey finds that younger families are more likely to be willing to buy a home over the next few months, while real estate agents have found that baby boomers are willing to sit on the market.

The National Association of Home Builders says the national survey, conducted by California-based John Burns Real Estate Consulting, found that 85 to 89 percent of buyers said it was a good time to buy a home.

However, while buyers between 31 and 45 made up just 32 percent of potential buyers, they were the group most looking to buy in the immediate future.

"They are in full force with their careers and they need to accommodate growing families," Mollie Carmichael, principal of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, said during a recent NAHB webinar. "These are first-time buyers or younger families looking for more room to grow."

Another recent poll also found younger consumers were some of the most optimistic about about buying homes in the Houston real estate market, or others across the country. A survey by Trulia last month found that 26 percent of people between 18 and 34 became more positive about the market over the past six months, while just 15 percent felt more negatively.
